The Horrors of Hurricanes

We here in the Southern Section of Sarasota County have experienced the panic, the indecision, the lack of funds during the time a hurricane rambles up into the Gulf.

We feel the pain of this area , meaning all on the Gulf Coast.

We have watched entire communities disappear. Wiped off the foundations. GONE. Is anyone else watching? I do not think so.

The other day, I saw a newprint article that said Hurricane Charley was GOOD for our area by "chasing" the older folk away therefore making room for younger families.

I could only GASP at the spin on that.

I drove through Charlotte and south of me. These people didn't "relocate", didn't move elsewhere. They lost their lives. The area hit by Charley were at least 2/3 were 55 and older trailer parks. GONE!!! Of course many developers have jumped on the "abandoned" areas and will build outrageously priced homes for the Millionaires being chased out of Miami by the Billionaires.

**Most recently, the county allowed a New York developer to build more than 380 condominiums on the site of the Victoria Estates mobile home park that Hurricane Charley destroyed.**

All this is working hand in hand with the new eminent domain ruling by the Supreme Court.

SO I am in full understanding of the cries of FOUL from the Mississippi and Lousianna people who are getting their property taken for "the good of the town"

No One will ever know how many people died and lost their lives due to the storms in 2004 and 2005 in this region. But the memeories have got to me remembered before the Newspapers spin these dead citizens  as people who "moved"
