Conservative Republicans reveal their hearts and minds in their defense of Coulter
BBSNews Commentary 2007-03-09 -- Ann Coulters latest abominable remarks at CPAC were met with applause, giggles and long lines to sign her book and mainstream Americans are not amused by "conservatives" adoration of her bigotry and animosity. Five newspapers so far have dropped Coulter's columns but "conservatives" are for the most part standing behind the out of control extremist Coulters as saying it like they believe it.
The whole gamut of online right-wing political Web sites are in full Coulter defense mode, and judging by the comments found on these sites, America has a much deeper rooted problem than a shrill commentator with a penchant for being provocatively ugly about anyone who does not march in lockstep with her and her perception of what American conservatism is actually about.
Coulter reprised her sad and bigoted remarks at a church in Fort Lauderdale the day after the CPAC debacle and as of yet there is no evidence that the church or it's congregation saw anything wrong with her conduct at all. The whole sad affair is eerily reminiscent of racial bigotry in America's history, many don't even know that marriage between black and white folks were not fully protected until 1967, a mere forty years ago. It's not a stretch to wonder if this strident Coulter defense is not being made by those very same people and their offspring who have been indoctrinated with such intolerant dogmatism.
What's worse, Coulter defended in a Fort Lauderdale church the murder of doctors who perfom abortions by drawing a moral equivalence defense, because women are legally able to decide whether to be pregnant or not, right-wing whackos are apparently free to illegally murder people for performing a legal medical procedure on women who have given informed consent.
Apparently the folks organizing a "Christian" conference called "Reclaiming America for Christ" were positively giddy at having Coulter close out their annual shin-dig at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday, the day after she made an anti-gay slur against presidential candidate John Edwards. The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reported:
"She's a polarizing person," Gary Cass, executive director of the Center for Reclaiming America, said in an interview. "Some have told us they think her style is too caustic, though they agree with her positions. Others love her style."
They "love" her "style" and "agree" with her. Uggh.
American Christian "conservatism" has a very nasty side to it. It does not seem very Jesus like. Sadly the Republican party is made up of these folks, they are the "base."
The last day of the conference apparently cost $75 bucks a pop to get in. One wonders what that politically motivated money gets spent on?
More appeals to "conservative" base instincts by the likes of "murder motivational speaker" Ann Coulter perhaps?
This is what Coulter had to say at this "Christian" conference in a church sanctuary no less:
"Those few abortionists were shot, or, depending on your point of view, had a procedure with a rifle performed on them. I'm not justifying it, but I do understand how it happened.... The number of deaths attributed to Roe v. Wade about 40 million aborted babies and seven abortion clinic workers; 40 million to seven is also a pretty good measure of how the political debate is going."
False moral equivalence aside, Coulter's remarks are disgusting. Does the congregation at Kennedy's church, in fact, does America's "conservative" Christians really hold these caustic ideas put forth by Ann Coulter? Will the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church disavow these comments made in their name?
