VENICE, FLORIDA A part-time music teacher in Venice, Florida, decided he probably will have to resign from his teaching post. He was given several options but one of them was not allowing him to pursue an acting career in the local theater workshop because of a nude scene in one performance.
The nudity scene he has to perform is crucial to his stage character in the famous British film hit, “Full Monty”. His character strips for a night to raise money to help support his family.
But Lemon Bay school administrators contend that, "We kind of hold our teachers to a higher moral standard than, say, someone who works for Comcast may or even the newspaper, because we're dealing with our children every day."
District officials learned Brenner was in the show from a picture in the newspaper.
So Jason Brenner, who is in his third year as a part-time music teacher at the high school, said Lemon Bay administrators gave him a letter Thursday with some options but one of them was not permitting teaching and stripping.
Brenner said he was placed on temporary leave of absence until late next week, when he is expected to submit his resignation.
