In a State where motor cycle enthusiasts can have the freedom to ride with out helmets I feel that the seat belt law is in the same realm and find it bogus to raise funds for police activity through fines for not wearing a seat belt.. So far the helmet non-law is worded in this manner… (b) Notwithstanding subsection (l), a person over 21 years of age may operate or ride upon a motorcycle without wearing protective headgear securely fastened upon his or her head if such person is covered by an insurance policy providing for at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries incurred as a result of a crash while operating or riding on a motorcycle. So, why can ‘t the rules governing seatbelts be worded in the same manner? Is it because to do so takes the government off our backs As of July 1st, it is now legal for a Police Officer to pull a vehicle over if they see you driving without being belted. It would mean less money in the coffers? Now gives the Police just another reason to pull a driver over and check their papers. Isn’t that what they do in Communist Countries? Would it also open up a can of worms regarding all sorts of laws to keep us safe from ourselves? I think so.
