For those of us who have lived in Florida for the majority of their lives, we have seen great changes along with many bad ones.
I have had the chance to learn and love both coasts of Florida.
As a child, I was on the East Coast of Florida and watched with great dismay over the woods being removed. Totally removed and high rise vacation resorts that took their place. Not only did it take away a place to play and pretend but it made the area 10 degrees warmer because there wasn't any trees to do what they do best. Make things cooler and give the wild life a place to live.
As an adult, I have been watching the out and out rape of resources on the West Coast.
Here in Venice, all they care about are “visitors” which is apparent after season when the traffic fines get higher after season and even Checker Burgers stop having their Sunday Specials after season.
So when I saw this letter in the herald , I thought it was along my same line of thought....
When are we going to stop the madness.
Tourist mecca? That is how Venice has been referred to.
It would seem that the Venice city planners and everybody else involved have lost their collective mind!
For whatever reason, it looks as if they want to do away with the only thing that resembles an affordable, public golf course and turn it into a resort retreat for only the people who can afford to zoom in on their jets or yachts.
What about the people who live here and have to work for a living?
I guess that when the smoke clears from the building of the hotels and condos, etc., at the airport property, someone will have forgotten to leave space for the casino or Disney or SeaWorld park!
