Lincoln Way East in Greene Township was shut down for nearly half an hour on Sunday after an explosive was found in a homeowner's mailbox.

State police at Chambersburg were called to the home at 7045 Lincoln Way East in Fayetteville, Franklin County, around 9:40 a.m. after the homeowner discovered what looked to be a homemade incendiary device.

The explosive was removed without incident by members of the Hazardous Device and Explosives Section of state police. Franklin County Haz-Mat Coordinator Gary Himes also responded to the scene.

While the device was being removed, police shut down Lincoln Way East from Route 997 to Route 233. A notice also was sent out around noon for drivers to avoid the area while the package - which police at the time termed as “suspicious” - was investigated.

Anyone with information on the explosive is asked to call state police at Chambersburg at 264-5161.
