Florida didn't vote for the Mother Fucker!!!
BUCHANAN is a FRAUD
SARASOTA -- About 60 activists, some wearing life preservers, filled the parking lot outside Rep. Vern Buchanan's Sarasota office on Sunday to call attention to rising sea levels and other threats posed to Florida by global warming.
Although Buchanan did not meet with the group, Graham Kuzia, the field organizer for Florida Greenpeace's Project Hot Seat, said he was happy with the turnout.
"Greenpeace has launched a campaign nationwide to help fight global warming, so we're putting pressure on Congress to take really good steps to pass good legislation to help fight global warming," Kuzia said. "Congressman Buchanan, we think, can be a natural leader on global warming, so we set up shop in Sarasota and we're going to be here until we get the job done."
Andrea Grzybowski, 19, of Sarasota, an intern with Greenpeace in Florida, said young people are worried about the environment.
"I think that they have to be," she said. "If they're not interested, then who's going to be?"
Rick Magee, a retired police officer originally from Virginia, and his wife Peg drove from Venice in his Toyota Prius. Peg Magee, also a Prius owner, was one of the people holding the large poster that read, "Congressman Buchanan: Be our life preserver. Stop global warming."
Rick Magee said he would like to see more attention paid to solar energy, which he uses to power the water heater and pool filter at his home.
"I would like to see if we can influence Mr. Buchanan to agree that climate change is real and to start voting for this country to provide leadership in sensible energy policy," he said, adding that at present, leadership is lacking in that area. "Our leadership is committed to fossil fuels, and we need to find other sources of energy, like the sun."
With all the environmental issues that are getting attention in the area, such as hurricanes, red tide and the drought, the Sarasota area is a fertile field for environmental activism, Kuzia said, and people are very responsive to the issue.
"Because Florida is on the coast, a rise in sea level would be detrimental to the Keys and Sarasota," he said. "It's a real key area that's really going to be affected."
