"Democratic Senator Calls For Censure Motion Against President"

A leading Senate democrat has opened up another front against the Bush Administration

.
Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin is going straight to the top.  He wants to censure President Bush himself.

Senator Feingold said, “He did this surge, which went contrary to the will of the American people.  I think we need to do something serious in terms of accountability.”

This week, Feingold plans to introduce two censure resolutions condemning the president and his administration.

Censure...number one will address Iraq; overstating the case that Saddam Hussein had WMD, failing to plan for the civil conflict, and over-stretching the military.

Number two would deal with the alleged abuse of power such as warrant less wiretapping against suspected terrorists.

Feingold said, “This administration has assaulted the Constitution.  We need to have on the historical record some kind of indication that what has happened here is in the words of Director McConnell, ‘disastrous.’  Somehow we have to address that and I think it's a good time tobegin that process.”

Even as anti-war pressure continues to build, such as activist Cindy Sheehan's march on Washington Monday morning, the senate majority leader wouldn't commit to supporting Feingold.

Senator Harry Reid said, “The president already has the mark of the American people that he's the worst president we've ever had, and I don't think we need a censure resolution in the Senate to prove that.”

The Senate's top republican accused the democrats of more political theater

Senator Mitch McConnell said, “I think it's safeto say Russ Feingold is not a fan of George Bush. I think that's the best way to sum that up.”

The White House responded to Feingold’s intentions by welcoming debate on a wide variety of important issues once, they said, the democratic majority is finished with its calls for censures and investigations.
