DeSoto County Sheriff's Deputies say a suitcase floating found floating in the Peace River on Thursday night contained human remains.

Authorities say the suitcase contained the remains of a white female who was at least 12 years old.

The remains have been transferred to Sarasota, to be examined by the medical examiner's office.

DeSoto County deputies say that they are investigating the case as a homicide.
