UPPER MARLBORO // A Prince George's County grand jury indicted a county police officer on second-degree murder and other charges yesterday in the shooting of two furniture deliverymen in January.
Cpl. Keith Washington, 46, a former homeland security officer, was indicted on charges related to the shooting at his home in Accokeek when the men dropped off a bedroom set Jan. 24. Brandon Clark, 22, died from his wounds, and Robert White, 36, was injured.
Washington used his police-issued handgun and said he acted in self-defense when he found the men in a part of the house where they didn't belong.
Along with second-degree murder, Washington was indicted on charges that include attempted second-degree murder, assault and handgun violations.
It is the second indictment of Washington for incidents with firearms at his home. In June, he was indicted on assault charges after he brandished a gun at a real estate appraiser who had the wrong address. Washington lost hi
his job as a county homeland security officer after that incident and has since been suspended from his police job.
