A standoff in Denton County ended peacefully Wednesday morning.

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible assault at about 2 a.m. in the 8200 block of Sherman Road between the towns of Ponder and Justin, said Lt. Lin Jones.

Authorities could not make contact with the man or his girlfriend who were inside the trailer home and a standoff began at about 4 a.m., Lt. Jones said. The man had a criminal history and it was unclear if he was armed.

The man and his girlfriend came out of the trailer after a relative contacted them, Lt. Jones said. The man, who was not armed, was taken into custody shortly before 8 a.m. and faces possible assault charges.

The area was sparsely populated and no evacuations were ordered.
