TALLAHASSEE -- Florida Senate President Ken Pruitt's oldest son died
Wednesday of unknown causes, but foul play has been excluded, police
said.
Kenneth Pruitt Jr., 29, died at Tallahassee Memorial
Hospital after he was taken there by ambulance, police spokesman John
Creamer said.
The younger Pruitt was visiting the home of some
friends when they called for help for a medical emergency about 1 a.m.,
Creamer said.
"We found absolutely no signs of foul play,"
Creamer said. "At this point, he was not the victim of a violent crime
or homicide."
He said an autopsy was inconclusive and that
toxicology tests will be made to try to determine a cause. The results
usually take six to eight weeks.
The younger Pruitt was an information technology worker at the Tallahassee hospital. He was divorced and had one child.
He was one of five children of the Senate president, a Port St. Lucie Republican.
"Details
are still emerging regarding the circumstances of his passing," Senate
spokeswoman Kathy Mears said in a statement. "The enormity of the loss
of Ken Jr. is indescribable."
Gov. Charlie Crist issued the
following statement: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Senate
President Ken Pruitt and his family today. My heart goes out to the
Pruitts as they deal with this tragic loss."
