Sarasota County Commissioner Shannon Staub said
today she has decided not to run for sheriff and instead will seek
another term in her present position.
"I think there are going to be some really good candidates for
sheriff who have my vision of reorganization and who also possess
experience and skill in law enforcement," Staub said.
Staub decided she could be most effective as a county commissioner.
"I really searched my heart so much for this," she said. "I've decided I want to do what I'm doing now, only do it better."
Staub declined to support anyone for sheriff for the time being.
"I'm pretty sure not everyone has announced their candidacy for
that job yet," she said. "I am meeting with a number of people who are
thinking of running and who are going to run, so I think there will be
a good selection of candidates."
In 2008, Staub will face North Port City Commissioner Barbara
Gross, a Republican, and Democrat Jennifer Cohen, who have thrown their
hats into the ring to take her job.
