LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- The widow of NFL-player-turned-Army Ranger
Pat Tillman has spoken publicly for the first time since her husband
was cut down by friendly fire in Afghanistan.
Marie Tillman describes her husband as a man of "enormous talent" who she says had a "complex moral and intellectual side."
In a speech at the University of Arkansas yesterday, she said his death as called into question "leadership on many levels."
She also declared that the nation is "in need of authentic leadership on many levels, social, economic and political."
Pat
Tillman was killed April 22nd, 2004, by bullets fired by his fellow
soldiers and not by enemy fire, as the military initially
claimed. Some of Tillman's relatives have alleged a cover-up leading to the White House.
But
Marie Tillman steered clear of that controversy. Instead she discussed
the Tillman Foundation dedicated to developing leaders
among young people.
During a congressional hearing August 1, former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and three former generals expressed regret with the Pentagon's delay in telling the truth. They took no blame for the violation.
