Man in Dallas police custody dies E-mail

A 49-year-old Dallas man died Tuesday from what police say may have been "excited delirum," a medical condition brought on by a severe chemical imbalance in the body that often results from long-term drug use.

Police and medics were called to the 4000 block of Sunnyvale just before 2:30 p.m. with reports that a man had torn up his apartment, kicked over a neighbor's motorcycle and then took off his clothes before passing out in the hot parking lot, Dallas police Sgt. Gary Kirkpatrick said.

The man resisted aid and police handcuffed him and moved him into the shade, Sgt. Kirkpatrick said.

The man went into cardiac arrest and was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where he died. The name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
