A homeless Port Charlotte woman is accused of stabbing a homeowner who let her share the home during the recent cold spell. The victim, identified as David A. Carr, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatement of stab wounds.

Bob Carpenter, spokesman for the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, said the incident occured Sunday evening after Carr told Shirley Ann Mofford, 57, that she needed to leave the home at 20259 Albury Drive, Port Charlotte.

Carpenter said deputies reported Mofford had been drinking and instead of leaving used a steak knife to stab Carr in the abdomen.

The weapon was recovered at the scene, Carpenter said, and Mofford is said to have told deputies what happened. She has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
