Lockdown lifted at Venice High E-mail

VENICE — A disagreement between two Venice High School girls led to a lockdown at the school and nearby Venice Elementary School on Friday morning.

School officials initially thought a gang fight was about to take place, said Venice Police Captain Tom McNulty.

Students and teachers were told to stay in their classes and the campus was secured by Venice police.

After further investigation, it was discovered that two girls had an argument that was blown out of proportion, McNulty said. The girls planned to fight each other, and each had threatened to recruit friends, McNulty said.

“Whenever there's the possibility of school violence, especially in light of what’s happened on some college campus recently, we’re going to err on the side of precaution,” McNulty said.

The lockdown was lifted around 10:30 a.m.
