Brothers charged with grand theft, burglary PORT CHARLOTTE -- Two runaway brothers were arrested Tuesday and charged with 25 offenses, including grand theft and burglary, according to a Charlotte County Sheriff's Office press release.
The brothers, 12 and 14, were caught running from a storage shed and concession stand that they are charged with burglarizing in North Charlotte Regional Park, according to the release.
The boys, reported as runaways March 31, took candy, gum and $40 in cash from the Port Charlotte Little League Association concession stand, according to charges.
When questioned, the boys told authorities that in the past two weeks they had committed a series of crimes, including burglarizing the park shed and concession stand, burglarizing two homes on Ellery Street, stealing two bicycles from a home on Skyland Lane, taking three bikes from two homes on Raleigh Avenue, burglarizing one of the homes on Ellery Street a second time and stealing a 1996 Ford van from the park's parking lot.
Each boy was charged with six counts of grand theft, grand theft auto, possession of burglary tools and resisting an officer without violence.
The 14-year-old also was charged with violation of probation and four counts of burglary.
The 12-year-old faces two more counts of burglary.
