I deem only 5 of the suits in the first link are safe suits, shark safer I should say . Yes, the others are pretty but you will look like an exotic tropical fish to a shark….or more than that, you will simply look like shark bait all dressed up.
I am talking about swimsuits at the Ocean or Gulf Beaches. You must realize that it is a different environment. Lurking out there in sand and sea are irksome creatures great and small. From bacteria to sea nettle jellyfish, there are living things that may not kill you but surely can ruin your day. It is home to a few meat eaters. Not only Shark but Barracuda as well! Attracting “feeder” fish is as bad as ringing the dinner bell to the meat eaters of the Seas.
Experts believe that most shark attacks are cases of mistaken identity.
After seeing the Swimsuits that are being touted as the fashion trend, I can understand the Sharks problem. It ,the shark, probably feels like a great bait and switch has been accomplished.
When I have read Ocean Swimming tips, the warning on not wearing tropical colors and jewelry has always been mentioned but it seems as if fashion designers are either not listening or too afraid of being swept up by hysterics.
We have had an upswing of Shark attacks in the last 5 years. Overall, the 1990's had the highest attack total (481) of any decade, and the 2000-2004 totals indicate this decade likely will continue that upward trend. That is according to the ISAF 2004 Worldwide Shark Attack Summary
I do not know what the people were wearing and whether or not it is a factor at all but it should give room for thought that the fish ARE biting!
I read in a local paper , the name slips my mind at the moment, about the Red Tide being responsible for added Shark frenzy.
We have had PLENTY of Red Tide. So I imagine there are many frenzied sharks out there that not only are themselves being poisoned slowly but many fish have been lost to red tide death, not to mention over fishing.
If vacationing in Florida. Please make sure you follow certain tips besides those regarding wearing non – flashy and sparkly or tropical colored swim suits but also remove your jewelry.
- In the Gulf, shuffle your feet when you enter and walk in the water. That will move the Sting Rays out of your way.
- Do not swim at dawn or dusk. It is feeding time.
- If fish start jumping around you or birds gather over your head. MOVE OUT OF THAT LOCATION! It means that bait is in the area and if you are in that area, You are also considered bait. If the fish are flopping around you they are being scared by something larger so MOVE IT!!
- Do not swim off by yourself. Stay near or in the middle of a group of people. I know, the tendency is to get off by yourself but in Ocean waters you are considered bait possibly.
Sand bars are feeding areas as are the spots in between sand bar to sand bar.
. I am sure if you follow these instructions you will LOVE your time here in the Fun and Sun.
