Demonstration held along Shell Beach

SARASOTA - A small demonstration was held Sunday near Siesta Key.

Residents along Shell Road are seeking to have the road and the beach blocked to the public. They want to designate the beach as private.

Opponents waved signs, calling for support in keeping the beach open to the public.

"People have been enjoying this beach for a long time. This is important. This is the only beach on the north side of Siesta. If they close this beach it's really significant," says Tom Nay.

Those against the private beach designation are asking people to contact Sarasota County commissioners.
