. I was met with this little blurb on Donald Rumsfeld, and as I read it, I had to chuckle. It says, “There’s going to be a question-and-answer period, but please adhere to these guidelines. Refrain from using the word ‘lie’ in relation to the war in Iraq. Do not question the secretary’s personal responsibility for torture. And please don’t discuss first use of nuclear weapons against Iran. If you violate these guidelines, you'll be immediately removed from the auditorium, flown to an undesignated prison location somewhere in Eastern Europe and tortured. Thank you for your cooperation. The World Cannot Wait.” A wonderful, wonderful group. Those are the words of Ray McGovern in an interview today on Democracy Now. I have to wonder how many pamphlets like this are floating around?Has anyone found out what happened to the “hecklers”?I was amazed when I saw this because even if it was a “joke” among the sickest of War Fans ,Was it appropriate? So who are the Southern Center for International Studies ? According to their website The primary mission of SCIS is to internationalize the thinking of the American public. In accomplishing this mission, SCIS seeks to inform. It does not take political positions or attempt to influence policy Wow, I do not believe that for a second since they attempted to throw out a 20+ year former member of the CIA for asking questions that went against the warning literature handed out at the beginning of the speech. Chances are that Ray McGovern was allowed to speak because Mr Rumsfeld recognized him, perhaps not.I noticed on the SCIS website the people in the Photos we Men in Wonderfully Expensive Suits. So, what kind of media analysis has this gotten? Here are some of the Gems. ZAHN: How much of an ax do you have to grind with Secretary Rumsfeld?MCGOVERN: It's not a matter of axes to grind. It's a matter of telling the truth. And we pledged, in my day at the CIA, to tell it without fear or favor, to tell it like it is. And, when I see that corrupted, that is the real tragedy of this whole business.ZAHN: There was a point where it appeared as though you were going to get kicked out.MCGOVERN: Yes.ZAHN: Donald Rumsfeld encouraged whoever I think had their hands on you at the time to let you stay there. Does he get any credit for that today?MCGOVERN: At first, I thought, "Well, that was rather gracious."But, then I got to thinking, I was not abusing the privilege. I was simply asking pointed questions. And for the national TV audience to see me carted away for asking Rumsfeld to explain what any objective observer would call a lie, that wouldn't have been good PR.All I want to ask Paula is “How much does she get paid to do deflect duty?”I imagine McGovern's goal yesterday was to get on the evening news. It was a spectacle, and McGovern wasn't really seeking an answer to any question: he already had the answers; he was just seeking to expose. That quip was by William M. Arkin in the Washington Post.I tell you the spin on this is so typical.Blame the VictimBlame the Messenger Blitzer backed up audience member's criticism of Rumsfeld, then described it as "anti-Rumsfeld ranting" Again, Towing the White House Line.So what is UP with that AMERICAN PRESS?Why are you giving us only HALF TruthsThe Truthiness is Gonna Get You!MR. STEPHANOPOULOS: Finally, weapons of mass destruction. Key goal of the military campaign is finding those weapons of mass destruction. None have been found yet. There was a raid on the Answar Al-Islam Camp up in the north last night. A lot of people expected to find ricin there. None was found. How big of a problem is that? And is it curious to you that given how much control U.S. and coalition forces now have in the country, they haven't found any weapons of mass destruction?SEC. RUMSFELD: Not at all. If you think -- let me take that, both pieces -- the area in the south and the west and the north that coalition forces control is substantial. It happens not to be the area where weapons of mass destruction were dispersed. We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat. And that statement was 9 days into the war.As was this cocky reply about the length of the Iraq WarSEC. RUMSFELD: Oh, goodness, you know, I've never -- we've never had a timetable. We've always said it could be days, weeks, or months and we don't know. And I don't think you need a timetable. What you really need to know is it's going to end and it's going to end with the Iraqi people liberated and that regime will be gone.In the meantime the Freepers and some paid individuals werehitting the Forums also towing the lineRumsfeld was cool as a cucumber. Not sure which video you were watching but he was anything but "shaken".He even asked security to let the guy finish asking the question because he felt compelled to answer all of the guys questions. And when Rumsfeld insisted that the guy have an opportunity to finish his question and get Rumsfeld's answer, the guy starts spouting off about "Is this still America?". Uh, yeah, it is! Posted by: You Know Im Right at May 4, 2006 10:24 PM Actually, this is probably the same poster hitting several sites which is what they are paid to do, after all.To answer these guys, they need to get acquainted With the REAL Downing Street Memos. Memos. It is a shame Americans have been told so much BS by people such as these two Boobs, You know Im Right and Ranger Bob.But that goes to show that Ray McGovern was Right regarding the State of America and the brainwashing that has been dutifully recorded.RAY McGOVERN: Well, Amy, just listening to this little clip here, I find it scary. These were ostensibly educated normal people, and their reaction was very much like the one that Goebbels stirred up. You can see it was a very unfriendly audience to anyone who posed any kind of question to the Defense Secretary. So -- and listening to it, I'm sort of scared, because if this is indicative of the brainwashing that has taken place, it's going be a long, long struggle to speak truth to power, as Fannie Lou Hamer so famously said, and Damu Smith, as well.
