Serial rapist in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg, Florida - In the homes near the alley where one of the assaults took place, bad news travels fast.

Keisha Davis, lives near Campbell Park:
“Ain't no tellin' what he'll do to children, if he's doin' it to homeless people.”

Young, single mothers, are just learning about a serial rapist who struck in the heart of their neighborhood.

Keisha Davis, lives near Campbell Park:
“He's around here somewhere.”
Woman in neighborhood, chooses to remain anonymous:
“The stronger preys on the weaker.”

A woman asked we don't use her name told us she's aware the rapist has apparently targeted transient women, and says a lot of women who frequent Campbell Park are vulnerable.

Woman in neighborhood, chooses to remain anonymous:
“If you got women out there who are on drugs, they're not going to run to the police because they think police are going to be indifferent about it, because of what they're doin'.”
Detective Al Cope, St. Petersburg Police:
“They may be afraid that they aren't going to be believed, the could be scared.”

St. Pete Police say they know of three sex assaults in the last week, but there may be more.

Exactly one year ago, Sara Lynn Wineski, a transient from Pennsylvania was murdered in Campbell Park.

Despite an aggressive effort that crime was never solved.

Police say the killer could be the man they are looking for in last week's three rapes.

Detective Al Cope, St. Petersburg Police:
“There's no certainty at this point, obviously we noticed enough similarities to look into it.”
Woman in neighborhood, chooses to remain anonymous:
“But no one has the right to put their hands on you. I don't care what you're doin'”

This woman says she will be more aware of what happens in her neighborhood, stay inside at night until she is convinced a dangerous man is caught.
