Tallahassee, Florida (AP) — People might say some restaurants are going to the dogs. But one thing's for sure. Dogs will be going to some of the restaurants soon.
Governor Jeb Bush says he intends to sign a bill into law later this week that would allow local governments let restaurants permit dogs to eat with their owners in outdoor dining areas.
The measure would create a three-year pilot program after which time the state would revisit the issue to determine if it was a good idea.
Backers of the bill said many restaurants around the state already let diners bring their dogs onto the patio, and so the bill would just let counties legalize something that's widely done.
