Deputies crack down on teens at beach

Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies held a plainclothes surveillance operation Tuesday afternoon at Englewood Beach to enforce underage drinking and smoking.

The operation resulted in one arrest. Deputies also gave 10 teens notices to appear in court.

Deputies arrested Bobby J. Taylor, 19, of 1289 Drury Lane, in Englewood, on one count of possession of alcohol by a person younger than 21. Deputies arrested Taylor because he had a prior criminal history, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies issued the other eight notices to appear for underage drinking and two for possession of tobacco by a person younger than 18.

"We will continue to crack down on alcohol and tobacco violations, and enforce county ordinances such as bringing glass containers on the public beach," stated Lt. Jim Kenville, the Englewood District 1 commander.
