The Conning of the Elderly : An ALF report E-mail
Written by S. Smith

Recently, one of our readers contacted me regarding the Business of looking after the aged in this state. The Article that started this off was Local Alf Changing Hands.

Shortly after that time I was told of a letter of complaint by one of the residents.

I was also told that they have cocktail hour, which in itself is not really a bad thing for some but it is a bad thing for many of the elderly. Now , I am a little lost on just how ALFs work. It was my understanding that ALFS were ,like condominiums. The person owns their Condo and has also contracted out for Services so that the Seniors can stay on their own a little longer . So that Seniors can have a Support System that can be counted on. Make sure they eat, Make sure they take their medicine and check up on them at least once a day and be on hand for an emergency. That was my understanding. I have seen such things work and had no reason to really look into the Alf care Industry and that is what it seems to be .

Here is the Letter

In a story entitled  Not-So-Golden Years  mentions accounting murkiness.

It announced a delay in first-quarter earnings while it reviews the accounting treatment for the 33 ventures it co-owns with others. … Sunrise's bookkeeping on this issue is as murky as the Medicare drug rules.

During the fourth quarter of 2005, Sunrise began construction on 15 new senior living communities. Six of the new communities are located in Europe (the United Kingdom or Germany) and are being developed in Sunrise's joint venture with Pramerica Real Estate Investors. Four communities under construction were contributed to Sunrise's existing joint venture with MetLife and an additional three communities are being developed by Greystone, Sunrise's wholly-owned subsidiary, and will be managed for not-for-profit third parties.

Sunrise to Recognize Substantial Income From This Transaction in the Second Quarter of 2006; Accounting Review Still Ongoing

It is my understanding that these Elderly Americans . People who thought they had done everything in their power to take care of themselves in their Golden  Years are being taken advantage of and I do not understand how these people can get away with Cutting Services.

According to The Sunrise website  ,

It says,”We are committed to the needs, desires, wants, wishes, hopes and dreams of all seniors.”

From what I gather , they have cut the nursing staff and now charge each time a visit is rendered to that person but…..after all, they have a free bar.

Now I want to throw in another spin for you. What if these companies are CIA owned?? Could it be tied to Sun Cruz Lines and Abramoff?? How about Mohammad Atta?
