This is in response to Alex Ketay's commentary, "September 11: Conspiracy theorists owe it to victims' families to embrace the truth of 9/11." My question is, how do we know what is the truth? How can one make a statement that what happened on 9/11 is quite clear? And the biggest, most dire question: Where is the line between denial and ignorance? Nothing is clear about what happened that tragic day, except that the so-called facts are not facts at all.

It is no surprise that if you look hard enough, you are going to find evidence debunking the "conspiracy theories," if that is what we have decided to call them. That is what governments do; hide the truth. For example, Hitler and Nazi Germany were experts at masking the truth. Governments use what are considered highly regarded agencies such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which of course is government-funded, and publications like Popular Mechanics to help them in their cause. The monopolization of media sources such as cable news stations and newspapers is helpful too.

Before we just give in to obvious denial and believe what our government tells us, the same government that has led us on a tyrannical war that has robbed America of nearly 2,700 brave military men and women and countless innocent victims in their homeland has effectively dried out this country economically and sponsored the hatred felt toward us by many other countries, everyone should turn off their television set and research this issue thoroughly. Don't we owe that to the victims and their families?

Seriously, are we, as free-thinking individuals, to believe Bin Laden is in a cave somewhere and his Saudi Arabian "terrorists" are able to outsmart possibly the most highly protected air space in the world? That military jets were not scrambled when airline flights were flying off course and heading toward Manhattan? That the numerous witnesses testify to hearing multiple explosions in both buildings is a falsehood? That the World Trade Center skyscrapers free-fell into a nice, neat pile after being struck by jets? The nation needs to use its God-given common sense and come to terms with what really happened. It needs to come together to ask serious questions in the treachery that took almost 3,000 American lives five years ago. Denial will only continue to bury us in an already-deep hole.
