With more than 1.1 million contracts, the Florida Prepaid College Plan is the largest prepaid college plan in the country.
The latest enrollment period for the plan started Oct. 16 and runs through Jan. 31. The plan locks in tuition, local fees and dormitory housing at state universities and community colleges in Florida. Funds can also be used out of state.
The plan, now in its 19th year, is not only the largest in the country, according to Florida Prepaid officials, but it is bigger than the plans of all the other states combined.
Heading into the open enrollment period, the plan had assets of $6.7 billion and an actuarial reserve of $586 million. Since the plan was started, it has helped send more than 163,000 students to college, including more than 68,000 enrolled in fall of 2005.
The latest enrollment period is being supported by print, direct mail and Web-based advertising campaigns.
