HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL -- A Florida man is charged with attempted murder after police say he put a plastic grocery bag over his wife's head, then went into the store to shop.

81-year-old Ricardo Meana is charged with second-degree attempted murder and elder abuse.

Hillsborough county officials say a passer-by heard his wife crying for help and found her alone in their van, in a wheelchair with a bag tied over her head.

Meana told investigators he used the bag because his wife said she not feeling well.

"She told her husband she felt ill to her stomach and felt like she was gonna throw up so Mr. Meana then took a plastic bag, put it over her head and tied it around her neck so she wouldn't throw up inside the vehicle," said Debbie Carter, a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
