Email scam warning for the Suncoast

A warning is out tonight for Suncoast businesses to watch out for a bogus email.

The scam begins as an email, sent from This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it It claims this person is looking for people to sell equipment.

If you're interested, you get a check for more than $40,000 for the starting costs of the business.

The check is from a real bank, and looks real, even with a watermark. But the account has been closed and the check will not be honored.

When you deposit the check, the scammers get access to your account.

If you received this email contact the attorney general's office at 1-866-9-NO-SCAM (1-866-966-7226) or file a compliant online at www.myfloridalegal.com.
