About 290 workers at a Xerox Capital Services LLC operations center in St. Petersburg, Fla. are losing their jobs.
Xerox Capital is a joint venture between Xerox Corp. and GE Capital Solutions. The affected workers are employees of GE Capital, company spokesman John Oliver said.
The work done at the center will be shifted to sites in Dallas and Chicago, Oliver said. The Florida center will close Oct. 31, 2007. Workers will receive severance packages.
"We trying to give them as soft a landing as possible," Oliver said. Xerox Capital is headquartered in Rochester.
