ON THE TRAIL WITH KIMBERLY C. MOORE - After a dinner of fall-off-the-bone barbecue ribs Tuesday night, several horse owners spent some time rounding up their escaped steeds, which galloped toward people and other horses as they tried to make their way to open pasture.
The trail head camp is nestled between the Florida Turnpike and Canoe Creek Road and campers fell asleep to the sounds of tractor trailers rushing by. Some are hoping tonight's campground is in a more remote spot.
Horses sounded like teenaged girls at a slumber party throughout the night, neighing and whinneying as they talked to one another.
Campers this morning are awakening to 52 degree temperatures and foggy conditions, making tents, saddles, horses and people damp.
At 4:30 this morning, I was a little inspired:
Hours before dawn
The great hunter Orion
Climbed up through the fog
Hovering over our horses' backs
As he stalked a waning moon
